Building under construction collapses 32 floors in Bethlehem


(Updates with new data from the fire department).

São Paulo, 29 jan (EFE) .- A building under construction 32 stories collapsed on Saturday in Belem, northern Brazil, where a work crew was on site working, official sources said Saturday.

According to a source of the fire department, quoted by issuing "Globonews", seven employees were working on Saturday at the crash site, but four of them left the area of the works before the landslide.

Initially, in late afternoon, the information released by the military police was that some 15 workers were on site.

Previously, the assistant coordinator of the Civil Defense of Para, Sergio Augusto Lima de Almeida, had ensured that at least five people were buried.

No information about the number of people who were in the houses near the time of the accident.

So far no official source reported fatalities.

According to sources in the Military Police quoted by local media, members of the firemen, rescue workers, police officers and even the Governor Simao Jatene moved to the place that stands alone. EFE
