What you know about obesity?

Being obese is suffering from a chronic disease resulting from excess body fat. According to the current tables, a person is considered obese when their weight is at least 20% higher than that considered ideal for your height.

Although the total fat distributed throughout the body is important, more relevant to know the region where it is located. Fat deposited in the trunk and abdominal region (also called type apple is often associated with excess insulin) leads to more health risks than if it focused on another part of the body, as in the hips and thighs (pear type) .
WILL I AM OBESE?

The calculation of the weight to see what category you are done is as follows:

WEIGHT (kg)
_____________________ = BMI (kg / m²)
HEIGHT x HEIGHT (m)

The weight is considered normal if the BMI is between 20 and 25 kg / m². Between 25 and 29.9 kg / m² is considered overweight and above 30 kg / m² Obesity is already considered.

As the table below:
BMI CATEGORY
Underweight Below 20
Normal weight from 20 to 24.9
Overweight 25 to 29.9
Obese 30-39.9
Morbidly obese 40 and up

Example: A person who weighs 91 kg and is 1.81 meters tall.

1.81 x 1.81 = 3.276 m²
91 / 3.276 = 27.777
BMI = 27.777 kg / m²

So it's with a BMI between 25.0 and 29.9, numbers that fall into the overweight people, ie those who are not obese, however, are overweight. But if she weighs 91 kg and is 1.65m tall:

1.65 x 1.65 = 2.722
91 / 2.722 = 33.43
BMI = 33.43

This means that the BMI is well above normal (overweight).

CAUSES

Long obesity was attributed solely to gluttony, but today we know that it is a combination of several factors:

According to statistics, in Brazil, the malnutrition rate is falling, while the rate of obesity is increasing rapidly, out of tune with the economic improvement and changes in lifestyle.
* Psychosocial - The need to compensate for emotional problems such as depression, for example, induces a person to overeat and lose the motivation to play sports or exercise, leading her to a sedentary lifestyle and excess caloric intake.
